ODSG TARGETS ZERO HIV/AIDS PREVALENCE RATE

The target of the present administration in Ondo State is to achieve zero level in the prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS in the state held in Akure, the state capital.

Adeyanju affirmed that to this end, the state government will continue to implement programmes and policies aimed at achieving zero level in the prevalence rate of the scourge through continued sensitization of the people about the scourge.

The Commissioner lauded the partnership of the Institute of Human Virology of Nigeria (IHVN) with the state government in the efforts at fighting the scourge stressing that IHVN is the third body partnering with the state government in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Adeyanju urged individuals not to take the recent pronouncements of new discoveries of the cure for HIV/AIDS as an opportunity to relax as such discoveries is not proven yet.

Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Director, Disease Control in the Ondo State Ministry of Health, Dr AyodeleAdelusi also restated that the target of the present administration in the state is to achieve zero level in HIV/AIDS prevalence rate.

Adelusi urged individuals to ensure that they ascertain their HIV/AIDS status.

In his address, the Project Manager of the Ondo State Agency for the Control of Aids (ODSACA), Dr DayoAdegbulu enjoined stakeholders to always work in line with the laid down plans in order achieve an effective fight against HIV/AIDS in the state.

Adegbulu expressed delight with the recent new discoveries in the efforts to cure HIV/AIDS.

In his goodwill message, the Managing Director of the Institute of Human Virology of Nigeria (IHVR), Mr Olalekan Mensa noted that the present administration in Ondo State is adopting a holistic approach in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the state.

Mensa affirmed that the institute will partner with the state government in the implementation of programmes relating to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

He lauded the full attention of all the stakeholders at the meeting.

Commissioner tasks health workers on productivity

Workers at the Ondo state Ministry of Health have been admonished to put in their best in the new year to enable government fulfil its goal of proving qualitative and exceptional healthcare services for the people in the state.

The commissioner for health, Dr.DayoAdeyanju threw this chanllenge at the new year prayer session and meeting organized by the ministry to commit the days ahead into God’s hands.

The commissioner charged the workers to show more commitment to work in the new year and assure them of more capacity building workshops and trainings that would help them efficiently drive government’s vision as well as records more successes in the sector.

Dr Adeyanju also advised them to review their activities in the last one year and improve on achievement recorded, discharge their duties with the fear of God and assured that everybody will be carried along in the scheme of things to achieve meaningful development in the sector.

While assuring that the people of the state should expect more health care innovations and policies in the sector in the New Year, the commissioner charged the health workers to take their health seriously and practice what they preach,

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Dr Taye Oni commended the staff for their support last year and admonished them to do more this new year.

Prayers, praise and supplications were offered to God at the event.

MRS. MIMIKO SHOWERS GIFTS AND CASH ITEMS ON NEW YEAR BABIES

Wife of the Ondo state Governor, Mrs Olukemi Mimiko has assured mothers and children in the state of more programmes and policies that would make them live good health at all times.

Mrs Mimiko represented by the wife of Commissioner for Special Duties, Mrs Nireti Akinsuyi gave this assurance while presenting gifts to the New Year babies at the State Specialist Hospital Akure.

Accompanied by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju and the Wife of Commissioner for Education, Mrs Olatubora, the Governor’s wife stressed that the health sector has been fully equipped towards ensuring healthy living of the people, particularly mothers and children.

While rejoicing with the first baby of the year at about 12.01am and weighing 3.5kg to the family of Mrs Veronica Adedeji, Mrs Mimiko prayed that God will help fulfil her destiny and gave the baby gift items and cash.

Also presenting gifts and cash to the lucky babies, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju noted that the delivery of a baby as the first girl is a sign that the state will witness more progress.

Dr. Adeyanju lauded theefforts of Mrs Mimiko for her contributions towards the survival of mothers and children especially through her maternal pulse foundation, describing her as a silent achiever.

Speaking on behalf of parents in the ward, Mrs. Veronica Adedeji thanked the governor for his concern for mothers and children, particularly the less privileged.

The commissioner thereafter visited the Mother and Child Hospital were ten deliveries were recorded as new year babies including a set of triplets and the Arakale Comprehensive Health Center in Akure where there were two new year babies who all got gifts courtesy of the Maternal Pulse foundation and the Ministry of Health.

At the Mother and Child Hospital Akure, Mrs Lydia Peter from Cross River State who was having her second caesarean session free of charge was full of praises for the present administration for not discriminating against her being a non-indigene.

The commissioner was also at the mother and child hospital, Ondo where out of the three new year babies was a set of twins born to a poor couple Mr and Mrs Ayofunmi Olafare, but had the sun of benevolence smile on them as they got cash and gift items from the commissioner in addition to a generous donation of 50,000 naira from an Ondo born philanthropist, Chief Olu Adeduro, the Sara of Ondo kingdom who had come to see for himself the so-much talk about wonders of the world class hospital.

Chief Adeduro also donated 50,000 naira to the hospital.

The couple showered prayers on the government for the construction of the hospital which they noted has relieved poor people like them a great burden of hospital bills.

ONDO MOVES TO PROMISE EFFIECIENCY IN THE HEALTH SECTOR

As part of efforts to promote efficiency and ensure justification for its remarkable investment in the health sector, the present administration Ondo state has launched a new initiative known as “Working Together for Health and Patient Feedback”.

The launch of the initiative at the State Specialist Hospital Akure, attracted the hierarchy of the state ministry of health led by the commissioner, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, members of the Hospitals’ Management Board , and health workers across the board in the state.

The commissioner informed that the initiative arose out of the need to promote team work and efficiency in the system using protocol management, clinical guideline and task sharing in such a way that health workers would help drive government’s vision of qualitative and exceptional healthcare services for the teeming people in the state.

Dr Adeyanju said that henceforth all health workers must go about with their ID cards to Enable patients know their identity such that they would be able to send correct feedback to the dedicated numbers well spelt out on the indicators that have been hung in and around the hospital complex and assured the number would be available at all times.

While stressing that this would translate to appropriate sanctions or reward for the concerned health officials, the commissioner assured of government’s commitment to continually initiate programmes and policies that would set the direction for the country and continent at large.

The commissioner said the intent of government is to ensure the hospitals look like places of respite rather than add to the infirmity of patients’ viz-a-vis the outlook of the environment.

Also speaking, Chairman House Committee of Health, Hon Soji Akinkolire and the chairman of the Hospital’s Management Board, Dr Tunde Ogunsusi who commended the governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko for all the transformations in the health sector stressed that only a robust collaboration between government and the health workers can help achieve result in the sector.

On their part, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr Taye Oni and counterpart in the Hospital Management Board, Dr Michael Ojo noted that the there has been a lot of improvements in the health sector since the present administration came on board.

The state chairman of the Medical Association of Nigeria (MAN) Dr Noel Dokun, state chairman of the PHARMACEUTICAL Society of Nigeria (PSN), Samuel Adekola and the Head of Nursing Services at the Hospital, Esther Mesijuolaau described the initiative as another milestone for the health sector and appealed to the colleagues to key into this idea for collective maximum success.

The commissioner officially launched the program by decorating the CMD of the hospital, Dr Ikuomola and other officials with a broche with a charged for them to work together and achieve meaningful success for the government.

The programme is expected to be replicated in other hospitals in the state.
